4.45am wake up call and off to Dolphin encounter to don wetsuits, masks, snorkels and flippers, ready for a sunrise swim with wild dusky dolphins… albatross, seals, and three species of dolphin were on view, an enormous privilege for us.
Then looking fetching in our ocean gear, albeit a little miserable – Siena’s understandable initial semi suffocation in her suit and mask – into the freezing water we went, to be like dolphins, swimming around in circles and squeaking like lunatics to attract the attention of the duskies.
The silt made the water a bit murky, and coupled with the dolphins speed it wasn’t easy, but we swam and played with these marvellous creatures out in the open ocean for over an hour, on and off- a wonderful life experience that certainly outdid my expectations, at least. Their dance around the boat on the way home- video forthcoming-made it all the more worthwhile. Thoroughly recommend the company who ran it: Dolphin Encounters – thank you!
